Causes of sciatica
Herniated disc: Herniated disc is one of the most common causes of sciatica, where the slipped disc presses on the sciatic nerve.
Spinal stenosis: This is a narrowing and strangulation of the sciatic nerve, leading to compression and strangulation of the spinal canal.
Injuries or nerve inflammation: Back injuries or nerve inflammation may lead to sciatica.
Common symptoms of sciatica
- Sharp lower back pain: This pain may extend to the hip and leg, and increases in severity with movement.
- Numbness and weakness in the leg: You may feel numbness or tingling in the affected leg, which affects your ability to walk or stand for long periods.
Treating sciatica through physical therapy
Our physiotherapy sessions for sciatica treatment include a range of techniques that aim to relieve pain and restore normal movement, including:
- Electrical stimulation techniques: This technique helps relieve pain by sending mild electrical currents to the affected area, which relieves muscle tension.
- Heat and cold therapy: This treatment helps relieve pain and reduce swelling around the affected nerve.
- Manual therapy and chiropractic sessions: This is the most commonly used to treat these diseases, which treats pain points and massages the connective tissue. Chiropractic therapy relieves pain, repositions the spine in its correct path, and these sessions make specific adjustments to the spine that remove pressure on the sciatic nerve.
- Sciatica exercises: We offer strengthening and warm-up exercises that target the muscles of the lower back and thighs, which helps improve stability and reduce pressure on the sciatic nerve.
- Relaxation and breathing techniques training: We believe that relaxation and deep breathing can play a major role in relieving pain associated with sciatica.
